Celebrating our 25th Anniversary

On the 2 February 1983 Emanuel School’s first students were enrolled in rooms at the Temple Emanuel in Ocean Street Woollahra.

This year marks the School's 25th Anniversary and the birthday celebrations began on the first day of school: students from Year 1-12 gathered in the Lehrer Multipurpose Hall for a special Birthday Assembly.

At the Birthday Assembly Dr Carter said, “when Emanuel started in 1983 there were 53 students (K-6). In 1985 we moved to this site and had 230 students (K-8) and now in 2008 we fill this hall.”

A huge birthday cake was cut by Alexa Narunsky (Year 1) who is a second generation Emanuel student. Dr Carter said that she symbolises continuity – a second generation coming through.

Each student received a birthday cupcake. A special commemorative badge was also given to each student and staff member. The High School students pinned the badges on the Primary students as part of the assembly. Year K students received their cupcakes in their classrooms.

Lining the walls of the multipurpose hall were photographs from the past: the inaugural 1983 class dressed in their navy uniforms and many photographs of the site taken in those early years.

An anniversary Teddy Bear will be on sale to Kornmehl Pre-school families.

A huge birthday cocktail party was held in May. See below for photos of the event.

25th Anniversary Function

On Thursday 22 May 2008 Emanuel School’s parents, staff, community leaders, past parents, Founders, Donors, Old Scholars and friends gathered to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the founding of the School. It was a gala event, held during Lag B’Omer, with over 700 in attendance enjoying a buffet dinner in a candlelit marquee. Rabbi Fox gave the Founder’s Address, Dr Carter presented the Keynote Speech with a pictorial representation of the history of the School, and combined Emanuel choirs presented the new School Song accompanied by the Emanuel Copland and Bernstein Bands. Mr Jonathan Sesel gave the President’s address while Mr Geoff Sirmai was the MC. As Dr Carter said, “Great progress has been made in the past 25 years. Even greater things lie ahead. I find it hard to contain my enthusiasm for this wonderful school. Congratulations, Emanuel School, on your 25th birthday. All of us here tonight are immensely proud of you.”
