Information Technology

The icons of the information age are evident in every nook and cranny of Emanuel. The computer is as much a part of the learning process as the pen. Specialist IT teachers interact with students in the general classrooms and in special IT areas.

“Live” Updates

It is recognised that current IT hardware, network systems and IT teaching strategies develop as quickly as technology itself. Emanuel has a commitment to updating its hardware and network. The aim is to incorporate IT into the general learning environment in meaningful ways. This requires the Emanuel IT committees to look ahead to capabilities in the future, to evaluate constantly technologies on offer, and to plan IT spending in order to give Emanuel’s students an IT advantage.

A wireless network covers the site, allowing all teachers to be issued with notebook computers and to bring these computers into any classroom.

Notebook Programme

In 2003 Emanuel School joined other leading independent schools Australia-wide in the Toshiba SNAP programme (Student Notebook Acquisition Programme), which provides mandatory student notebooks to Year 7 – a system which will expand in subsequent years. The vast experience of executive staff, and in particular the School’s IT Manager, made this technological jump possible. Students using notebook computers do so in ergonomically furnished rooms, specially designed to suit this use.

Training and Development

Staff undergo compulsory, regular, and on-going computer training as a professional development priority. The Intranet is under constant development as practical integration of computers into the curriculum is managed through a phased strategic School IT plan.

The executive staff are ever vigilant to keep abreast of emerging technology and to ensure that Emanuel students are given access to the very best of 21st century learning solutions.
