Interested students in Years 5 and 6 can learn to design, program and control fully-functional robotic models. They can learn to attach sensors and motors, which are plugged into a computer, and configure behaviours using a simple programming tool. Once the robots are built, students use software to plan, test and modify sequences of instructions for a variety of life-like robotic behaviours. They also learn to collect and analyse data from sensors, using data-logging functionalities embedded in Lego Robotics software, which is available on dedicated laptops.
Once students have mastered building and programming the robots, they are given the opportunity to enter the annual RoboCup Junior. In 2010, our inaugural year of competing in the RoboCup Junior, Emanuel School placed a respectable 11th out of 18 teams.
